Dr Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Advisor for Power and Energy, announced on Wednesday that the power supply situation is expected to improve within three weeks. This comes amid rising load shedding across the country.
The adviser attributed recent power issues to insufficient gas supply and technical faults at various power plants. He noted that the Rampal power plant has resumed production after recent shutdowns, and the Barapukuria coal-fired plant will soon be back online.
Fouzul Khan also reported that technical problems with the Summit Group's LNG terminal have been resolved, with production expected to resume in about 20 days. He added that steps are being taken to address pending bills with Adani Group to ensure continued power supply.
Despite these efforts, load shedding remains a problem, with recent shortages reaching over 2,000 MW. Gas-fired power plants are struggling due to a shortfall in gas supply, producing only 2,564 MMCFD of gas against a demand of 4,000 MMCFD.
