Authorities of Sylhet Gas Field Limited have informed that there is a possibility of finding gas in some new places in Sylhet. The gas field officials disclosed this new information after a week of extracting gas from an abandoned well in Sylhet's Biyanibazar.
The government agency said that a three-dimensional survey is underway in several areas of Biyanibazar. After the completion of the survey, excavation work will be started in places where gas is likely to be found.
Being abandoned for six years, gas supply to the national transmission line started last Monday (November 28) from well number 1 of Sylhet's Biyanibazar gas field. From here, 7-8 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national gridper day. Before this, gas was supplied experimentally on Sunday (November 27) night. According to Sylhet Gas Field sources, 8 million cubic feet of gas are being added to the national grid every day through pipeline from the abandoned wells of Biyanibazar Gas Field No -1. After receiving the final approval from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, gas supply to the national grid started on Monday evening.
Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) Managing DirectorMizanur Rahman said that natural gas exploration activities are ongoing in Sylhet's Biyani Bazar as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive. A survey is going on in several places in Biyanibazar under the supervision of BAPEX.
An earthquake survey is underway in the area of 191 square kilometers of this Upazila. Besides, a three-dimensional survey is being conducted in Barshia, Dupitila, and Hararganj areas of Biyanibazar.
