Popular Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee passes away

Bengali film and television actor Abhishek Chatterjee’s shocking demise has left Tollywood deeply saddened. Reports suggest, Abhishek suffered a heart attack and passed away at his residence in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on Thursday morning at the age of 57.

Despite being unwell, the senior artiste was shooting for upcoming TV show titled 'Ismrat Jodi' on Wednesday (March 23) and his condition deteriorated. He threw up a few times on the shooting sets and the crew members rushed for help. But the actor wasn’t ready to go to hospital and went home where. His family members called a doctor and Abhishek was given medical treatment too. But late at night, he breathed his last.

A graduate of Calcutta University, Abhishek Chatterjee made his debut with the Bengali film titled ’Pathbhola’ in 1986. Later the senior artiste did many Bengali movies and romanced almost all leading actresses of her time on-screen as a hero in ‘Ora Charjon’, ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Madhur Milan’, ‘Bariwali’ are some of her films. The actor was seen on Bengali television lately. He was playing Trina Saha’s dad in comedy-drama ‘Khorkuto’, which is quite popular among the audience. Besides this, he played meaty roles in other shows like ‘Mohor’, ‘Phagun Bou’, 'Tapur Tupur', 'Ichche Nodee', 'Andarmahal' and many others. He was very popular among his industry peers and known for his affable nature.

The news has left Tollywood deeply shocked. Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was among the first to take to Twitter to condole the actor's "untimely demise", describing it as a "great loss" for the local film industry. "Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry," she wrote. 

Laboni Sarkar, Gourab Roy Chowdhury, Trina Saha, Koushik Roy and many others have mourned his sudden demise. -Times of India
