Poor women get sewing machines in Ukhiya

A total of 50 sewing machines were distributed to the trained poor people of Ukhiya Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday. These sewing machines were distributed among the destitute women at the Upazila Parishad hall room.

Former Female Vice-Chairman of Upazila Parishad and general secretary of Upazila Women Awami League Kamrunnesa Baby presided over the distribution programme. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Hossain attended the programme as the chief guest.

Vice Chairman of Ukhiya upazila Russsel Chowdhury, Female Vice Chairman Shahin Akter, Upazila Engineer Rokonuzzaman Khan, Sub-Assistant Engineer Sohrab Ali and general secretary of Ukhiya Press Club Ratan Kanti Dey spoke at the programme as special guests.

Later, the chief guest and other guests distributed the sewing machines among 50 women of the upazila. Among them, 14 women of Haldiapalong union, 11 women of Rajapalong union, 11 women of Ratnapalong union and 14 women of Jaliapalong union received the sewing machines.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer told the beneficiary women not to keep the machines idle in their home and use it for earnings and meeting their own needs.

He thanked the former Female Vice Chairman Kamrunnahar Baby for organizing timely project for the women of Ukhiya upazila during her tenure.

Jannatul Ferdous, who received a sewing machine, said her children can continue with their study as she can make a living with the sewing machine now. She expressed her gratitude to UNO Tanvir Hossain, present Female Vice Chairman Shahin Akter and former Female Vice Chairman Kamrunnesa Baby for that.
