Some 70 underprivileged children on Friday got the opportunity to travel by metro-rail on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day.
Under the arrangement of the Road Transport and Highways Division, they traveled from the city’s Agargaon Metro Station to Uttara Station (Diabari) and they again returned to Agargaon.
The 70 children were brought to Agargaon station -- from two orphanages of Tejgaon and Mirpur areas -- on two open-deck buses around 9.30am.
The children also joined the celebration of Bangabandhu’s birthday at Metro Rail Exhibition and Information Centre’s video room at Diabari where a cake was also cut. A brief discussion was held on the occasion there.
Road Transport and Highways Division Additional Secretary Nilima Akhter and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTC) Chairman Tajul Islam addressed the discussion.
Upon their return to Agargaon, the children were also taken to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 to visit the museum.
