A week-long annual police week will begin on today (Sunday) with the traditional parade at Rajarbagh police lines in the capital.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued agazette notification on the occasion announcing names of 230 officials and rankers for their bravery and services in the force in 2020 and 2021.
The officials are going to be awarded in four categories during the parade with the Bangladesh Police Medal gallantry and services and President Police Medal gallantry and services.
They will sit for policy discussion with unit commanders and place their demands to the government.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would virtually inaugurate the annual gathering at Rajarbagh Police Lines at about 10:00am today (Sunday).
This year the parade will be led by the police superintendent Md Saleh Uddin.
This year police week theme is ‘Skilled police, Prosperous Country, Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh’.
The police did not hold the annual programme in 2021 so that the medals of 2020 and 2021 will be distributed together.
On Saturday, police officials visited Central Police Hospital in Rajarbagh police lines.
Public Security Division’s Police Wing-2 of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Thursday nominating 115 members of police and RAB for the BPMs and PPMs in 2020.
Fifteen of them will receive the BPM-gallantry and 25 the PPM-gallantry awards for their courageous and heroic activities, it said.
Besides, 25 personnel will get the BPM-Service and 50 the PPM-Service awards for their outstanding performance in unearthing mystery of important cases and in controlling crimes and for commendable contributions with skills, piety, integrity and disciplinary behaviour.
In a separate notification on the same day, the Public Security Division’s Police Wing-2 also nominated another 115 members of police and RAB for the prestigious BPMs and PPMs for their outstanding performance in 2021.
Of the awardees, 15 will receive the BPM-gallantry, 25 the PPM-gallantry, 25 the BPM-Service and 50 the PPM-Service awards.
Among the awardees, RAB director general Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been nominated for BPM-gallantry award while the deputy commissioner for Motijheel division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Abdul Ahad was nominated for the BPM-service award 2021.
