Nahid Akhter Julliet, Judge of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Joypurhat on Tuesday noon has ordered in a verdict to send a Police Sergeant of Bogura to jail at a dowry case filed against him by his wife.
According to the prosecution, Maya Akhter daughter of Golam Mostafa of Nishchinta Bazaar area of Khetlal upazila was married to Police Sergeant Tariqul Islam son of Tozammel Hossain of Nishi Nazipara area of the same upazila on August 14 (marriage registered on Nov-11) this year at a Mohrana of Taka six lakh. Soon after the marriage, Tariqul started to claim Taka 20 lakh dowry from the family of his wife Maya and resorted her to physical and mental torture in various ways and at a stage he ousted her from his house. As a result, Maya Akhter filed a case with the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Joypurhat against her husband Tariqul.
Meanwhile, Tariqul, husband of Maya and Police Sergeant submitted a petition for bail with the court bu the court rejected his bail petition and ordered to sent him to jail custody, informed Public Prosecutor Advocate Feroza Chowdhury.
