Police have requested a five-day remand for a doctor and his wife, accused of repeatedly torturing an 11-year-old housekeeper in Savar.

Md Ismail Hossain, 31, a residential medical officer at Barguna Sadar Hospital, and his wife Mahmuda Khatun Parashmani, were arrested in connection with the case and presented before the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Sunday.

Officer-in-charge Shahzaman of Savar Model Police Station confirmed the development to our Savar correspondent. The tribunal is expected to issue an order later today, according to the OC.

The victim, currently receiving treatment at Savar Upazila Health Complex, was the subject of a case filed by her mother with the local police station, citing multiple instances of torture.

Sayemul Huda, Savar upazila health and family planning officer, reported finding marks on the child's body indicating torture, possibly inflicted with a knife and heavy objects.
