Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun Saturday said stern action will be taken against those who will try to create anarchy and panic among people and vandalise properties.
"Members of the law enforcement agencies will take stern action against those who will be responsible for deteriorating law and order situation by creating anarchy in the country," he told newsmen after inaugurating a modern shopping complex 'Police Plaza, Bogura' here.
The IGP, also Chairman of Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust, said that police is capable of dealing with any challenge relating to the law and order. The IGP claimed that he does not know about the existence of any 'Gaybi case'.
He assured that police will investigate and take action if anyone has a specific complaint about any case.
He said we are determined to maintain the law and order situation ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. "We have been performing our duties under the Election Commission. At present, the capacity of the police to perform their duties has increased,’’ the IGP further said.
Police have sufficient logistics and manpower. Policemen are ready to face any challenge. If there is damage to people's life or property ahead of the election, police will take action, he vowed.
About the allegation of importing huge rubber bullets to suppress the anti-government movement ahead of the elections, the police chief denied the allegation and termed it completely baseless.
He said that equipment for the police is being purchased every year. It is a continuous process. These are not being bought for any special purpose.
In response to the question about what kind of initiatives are being taken to combat militancy, the IGP said the police are carrying out their duties on the principle of zero tolerance to maintain law and order in the elections and to combat militancy and terrorism.
The capacity of the police to fight terrorism and militancy has increased. Now any crime mystery is being revealed quickly, he continued.
The police will be able to take up the challenge of dealing with terrorism and militancy in the future, he hoped.
