Police on alert over N’ganj returnees

50 in home quarantine in Cox’s Bazar, 65 detained in Habiganj, 19 in Thakurgaon

As Narayanganj has been identified as the ‘cluster’ area of coronavirus spread, people of other districts are panicked over people recently returning back to those districts from Narayanganj.

Narayanganj is an industrial district of the country. Therefore, huge number of people from all over the country works in various garments or other factories set up in Narayanganj. Due to corona crisis these people working in Narayanganj have returned to their homes in other districts. So, residents of other districts are worried of coronavirus transmission in those districts by these Narayanganj returnees.

Over the past few days, more than 250 people have entered various upazilas of Habiganj from Narauanganj, reports our Habiganj correspondent. 

Among them, 35 families of Azmiriganj Upazila were instructed to stay in the home quarantine. The rest have not yet been identified which created panic across the district. Police have detained 65 people coming from Narayanganj who entered Habiganj by truck disobeying lockdown on early Wednesday.

They have been kept in institutional quarantine in the Isolation Ward of the 250-bed Modern Zila Sadar Hospital. They were detained from Sadakpur area on the way to Baniachang Upazila of Habiganj. Of them, 34 are men and the rest are women and children. 

Ranishankail upazila administration on Tuesday conducted a drive at the upazila in Thakurgaon to take steps about Dhaka and Narayanganj returnees.


Sub-inspector of the Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Dhrubo Esh said the detainees were kept in isolation and their samples will be sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for testing.

Earlier, police detained 16 more people who had returned from Narayanganj to Habiganj and sent them to Hospital. Corona virus infection was found in one of these 16 people. Meanwhile in Thakurgaon, a lot of people recently coming from Dhaka and Narauanganj are roaming around, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent. 

Among them more than a hundred people have returned in different villages of Rani Shankail upazila of Thakurgaon from those two district.

Rani Shankail Upazila administration detained 19 Dhaka and Narayanganj returnees conducting a drive on Tuesday and sent them to official quarantine for roaming around breaking quarantine.

In Thakurgaon 86 people are currently kept in institutional quarantine. Till now in the district 731 people were kept in quarantine. Of these, 315 are already exempted. At present, there are 416 people in the home quarantine in Thakurgaon. Most of these people came back from Dhaka and Narayanganj. 

Our Cox's Bazar Correspondent reports, police have sent 50 Narayanganj returnees to institutional quarantine in Kutubdia upazila of Cox's Bazar recently. These people were planning abscond.

Officer-in-Charge of Kutubdia Police Station Didarul Ferdous confirmed the information. He said a special unit called ‘Manobik police’ (humanitarian police) has been set up in Kutubdia who have been keeping watch around the upazila. At their initiative these 50 people were detained. Of them, 10 returned on Tuesday.
