To mark the Police Memorial Day, a discussion was organised at the Chittagong district police lines civic centre on Saturday morning in memory of the policemen, who died while performing their duties of internal security.
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was present in the event as the chief guest.
Chittagong Range DIG Nure Alam Mina was present as a special guest; Chittagong Anti-Terrorism Unit Additional DIG Mohammad Muslim; Chittagong Metropolitan Unit Commander, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Mozaffar Ahmad and Chittagong District Unit Muktijoddha acting Commander AKM Sarwar Kamal were present.
The function was presided over by CMP Commissioner (promoted to the post of Additional IG) Krishna Pada Roy.
Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah delivered the address of welcome at the beginning of the programme. He paid tribute to the martyred policemen of Rajarbagh Police Lines in 1971 and the martyred policemen including SP of Dampara Police Lines of Chittagong district.
Later, he expressed his condolences to the families of the policemen killed in the line of duty and promised to support them in any need.
In the speech of the chief guest CCC Mayor, he respectfully remembered the great freedom hero Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, who were martyred with him.
He reminisced about starting the war with the weapons provided by the police during the liberation war.
BSS from Khulna adds: The Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna Range Police jointly observed the Police Memorial Day-2024 on Saturday recalling the sacrifice of the police personnel who laid down their lives for the greater cause of the law enforcement.
To mark the day, a rally was brought out from City’s Boyra Bazar area and ended at Police lines after paraded different streets.
Later, they placed floral wreaths and given state honour to the martyred at the monument built in memory of those police personnel who sacrificed their lives for ensuring safety and security of the country.
The cops observed a one-minute silence before the guard of honour and offered munajat for the salvation of the departed souls.
Afterward, a discussion was held here with KMP Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque in the chair.
KMP commissioner Md Mozammel Haque accorded a reception to the families of the 36 martyred policemen and handed over the acknowledgement souvenir, certificates and various gift to them.
Officials of different branch of the police including KMP, Khulna Range Police, freedom fighters, leaders of community policing, journalists, among others, were present at the function.
Mentionable, a total of 36 policemen including 13 from KMP sacrificed their lives while they were on duty in Khulna.
