During the great War of Liberation, hundreds of policemen in Rajshahi participated in war to liberate our motherland from the clutches of killer, marauding Pakistani Army. Many of those police members have shed their fresh blood by being hit with the bullets of the Pakistani forces and their alliances. According to sources, at least 24 policemen had sacrificed their lives in the Libeation War in Rajshahi district only while the number is 110 under the Rajshahi Range of police. Among them the names of Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajshahi Range Mamun Mahmud and the Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi Shah Abdul Majid are worth mentioning. The heroic deeds and the sacrifice of those police members for the liberation of the motherland were only limited in talks and discussion to the people but now the act and history of their supreme sacrifice are being shaped as memorabilia for exhibition for all in a museum.
The Police Liberation War Memorial Museum ( Police Muktijuddho Smriti Jadughar) was inaugurated by the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at RMP Police lines on Tuesday. After a half century of the independence, people of the country will now be able to watch the gallantry, glory and heroic historical achivements of police by visiting this museum. Earlier on January-3 this year, IG of Police Dr Benzir Ahmed laid the foundation stone of this museum.
The museum is situated near the maingate of RMP Police lines. At the upper part of this red-coloured building, the terracotta art depicts the first resistance war at the Police lines during the liberation war. In another side, an excellent terracotta arts highlights the Langauage Movement and the Historical Speech of Bangabandhu on March-7. After entering inside, the visitors would be able to watch the History of our great Liberation War in pictures and in documents.
The Museum preserves the picture of Martyred DIG Mamun Mahmud, his short life story, the apparels he used to wear, a written statement which he delivered during the Traffic Week, picture of martyred SP Shah Abdul Majid, his short life-story, his used lanyard, and the replica of his police P-Cap.
The names of the martyred police members have been written on the wall, the cover of diary of police inspector Anjum Ferdous during his staying in the camp, a letter of appreciation to Anju,m Ferdous signed by the Commander in Chief of the Libeation War MAG Osmani, the master roll of FF policemen during the War of Liberation, the Mug used by constable Jahir Uddin during the War of Liberation, used blanket by FF police inspector Abdul Gafur, Certificate issued to FF police Shahadat Hossain by camp commander during War, photographs of other FF policemen, their used dresses, spectackles and various documents and letters during the resistance war in Rajshahi.
Bangabandhu Corner has also been set up inside the Museum where various pictures and a bust of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been set up. A part of speech of Bangabandhu-' You are the police of Independent Bangladesh. You are not the police of the British rulers nor the Pakistani exploiters, You are the police of the people. Your duty is to serve people so that I can feel proud for you'.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said after the inaugration, " Rajshahi was always in defensive and we used to get news of Rajshahi from Dhaka. I thank every one for the initiative of preserving memorabilia of police after a long time. Everyhing here involves memory. 110 people including DIG, Rajshahi, SP Rajshahi, sacrificed their lives in the War of Liberation. It is a pride. This history which was talked by the police has now come forward. "
