As deaths due to COVID-19 rise in Bangladesh, the bereaved families face yet another grim reality, that of not being able to bury their loved ones with full rituals due to the fear of exposing themselves to the virus.

Now in Gopalganj, relatives have not come to bury the body of a 40-year-old woman who died with corona symptoms in Balugram of Kashiani upazila on Thursday.

Locals were trying to stop the burial from happening, however the burial was completed with the intervention of Kashiani police.

It is known that on Thursday at 7:15 pm, on the instructions of Azizur Rahman, officer in charge (OC) of Kashiani police station, a police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asaduzzaman visited the village.

They started digging a grave for the deceased after persuading the locals. Later, they called an imam of a local mosque and offered funeral prayers and buried the body.

Confirming the authenticity of the incident, Kashiani police station OC Azizur Rahman said, “I am grateful to all the policemen who ignored the fear of virus and rushed to bury the body. This is an exemplary example of the police being friends of people.”

Kashiani Police Station ASI Asaduzzaman said, “The woman had been suffering from kidney disease at her husband’s house in Satkhira for a long time.

Due to sudden fever on Thursday morning, she was brought to her father’s house in Balugram. However, there she breathed her last in the evening.
