Renowned actor Chanchal Chowdhury has spoken out about Mongol Shobhajatra following a legal notice given by a lawyer against the celebration.
The actor wrote in a status update on Facebook that Pohela Boishakh is a Bengali ritual rather than a festival of a particular faith.
“Pohela Boishakh is unaffiliated with any religion. People of all classes and religions are welcome to participate in the Mongol Shobhajatra, which is a part of our Bengali culture”, he wrote in his post.
The "Hawa" actor said that since the word "Mongol" symbolizes well-being to Bengalis, we should all band together.
“Participation in the 'Mongol Shobhajatra' is open to everyone. The hostility to this celebration, however, is quite regrettable”, Chanchal said.
