Hosne Ara Hossain, a poet and literary figure, and also mother of journalist Sumon Mahmud of Bdnews24.com; passed away on Tuesday. She was 75.
She breathed her last at 5:55pm while undergoing treatment on life support at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in the capital.
She left behind her husband ABM Mokbul Hossain, two sons Sumon Mahmud and Arif Hossain Tipu, and one daughter Farida Kaniz.
Sumon Mahmud said that her mother was admitted to Square Hospital in the city on September 30, where she was placed on life support for an extended period. As her condition worsened, she was later shifted to the ICU of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
Sumon Mahmud also said his mother had been suffering from various old-age-related ailments, including neurological and heart problems for the past few years. She was put on life support on October 13 as suffered a heart attack.
Hosne Ara Hossain was born on August 15 in 1950 at Nangalkot in Cumilla. She was the eldest daughter of her father Ahmad Ullah and mother Delwara Afroze Chowdhury. Ahmad Ullah was a well-known lawyer in Cumilla.
In the 1960s, despite facing various challenges, Hosne Ara Hossain became a prominent figure in her family, writing poetry and short stories focused on the country, society, and nature.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at the death of Poet Hosne Ara Hossain.
He conveyedsympathy to the breaved family members and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
