Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's role in the upcoming climate summit or COP26 in Glasgow would be “crucial” as she is the President of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) which is a global partnership of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of global warming.
The Prime Minister will also speak at the Scotland Parliament on the sidelines of the climate summit.
Briefing reporters on Saturday, foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said the prime minister would leave Dhaka for Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday.
On November 1, she will deliver her speech at the summit which is expected to set the global course in negating the impacts of climate change.
The Prime Minister will chair a 'CVF-COP26 Leaders dialogue' on the conference sidelines as well.
The summit's main host British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier said the event must be a "turning point for humanity" while Sheikh Hasina would hold an exclusive meeting with him coinciding with the COP26 dialogue.
Momen said the 48-nation CVF dialogue was expected to yield the ‘Dhaka-Glasgow Declaration’ focusing on climate mitigation, adaptation and financing.
He said the prime minister would also hold bilateral talks with Prince of Wales Prince Charles and other global leaders including Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the sidelines.
On November 1, she will attend as the chief guest at a joint meeting of CVF-Commonwealth.
On November 2, she is scheduled to join a meeting titled 'Action and Solidarity-the critical decade' on the British premier's invitation and another discussion titled 'Women and Climate'.
She will present a paper titled 'A call for Climate Prosperity' to the Scottish lawmakers at the Scotland Parliament.
From Glasgow, the prime minister will go to London and stay there till November 8. From London, she will go to Paris for a bilateral visit from November 9 to 13.
During her London visit, she will deliver a speech to the British lawmakers at Westminster Place marking the 50-year anniversary of Bangladesh.
She would also virtually join an investment summit organised by Bangladesh Security Exchange Commission and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
The prime minister will also unveil newly published books on classified documents on Bangabandhu under the auspices of Bangladesh High Commission in London.
On November 9, she will go to Paris from London for a five-day visit at the invitation of the French President and the Prime Minister.
During her Paris visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with the French president and prime minister.
The foreign minister said the visit would elevate Dhaka, Paris tries further.
A number of deals are expected to be signed during the visit. “We are working on that,” Momen said, when asked for the details of those Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent.
On November 11, UNESCO will confer the first-ever "UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for the Creative Economy” award in the presence of the prime minister.
Momen said it is a pride for the entire nation that UNESCO introduced the international award after the name of Bangabandhu marking the Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Besides, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay during her stay in Paris.
The prime minister will return Dhaka from Paris.
Environment, forest and climate change minister Md Shahab Uddin, state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam and foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen were also present at the media briefing, among others.
