Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony will take place on the evening of Sunday (June 9), Indian media reports citing sources.
Earlier, the ceremony was slated to take place on Saturday (8 June), but now it will held at 6:00pm on Sunday.
The BJP leader is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu tomorrow at around 1:00pm to stake claim to form the government.
Modi had been chosen the head of the NDA on Wednesday, setting the stage for him to take oath as the prime minister for the third straight time - becoming only the second Indian to do so after Jawaharlal Nehru.
Several South Asian leaders have been invited to the oath-taking ceremony and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe have already confirmed their presence. Invitations have also been sent to Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', his Bhutan counterpart Tshering Tobgay and Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, results for which were declared on Tuesday, the BJP was reduced to 240 seats from its overwhelming majority of 303 in 2019. The NDA, which had won 352 constituencies last time, has also come down to 293, but is above the majority mark of 272.
PM leaves for Delhi today to attend swearing-in ceremony of Modi
BSS reports; Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to leave Dhaka for New Delhi today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term.
"The Prime Minister will leave Dhaka for New Delhi at 4pm tomorrow and will return home at noon on June 9 after attending swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi," PM's Speech Writer M Nazrul Islam said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his government during a conversation over telephone. Sheikh Hasina accepted the invitation.
Modi is likely to take oath on June 8 as the BJP-led NDA won 293 seats in the 18th Lok Sabha elections while the opposition INDIA bloc, secured 234 seats.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a message addressed to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, congratulated the victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
In the letter dated June 4, she said," On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to you on the resounding victory of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections."
As the leader of the largest democracy in the world, she said, "You carry the hopes and aspirations of the people of India."
"Your convincing victory is a testament to the trust and confidence that the people of India have reposed in your leadership, commitment and unwavering dedication for the country," she said.
The Premier said she firmly believed that the friendly and close ties of the two countries will continue in all areas, as Modi started the journey with renewed mandates for a rare 3rd consecutive term.
"Let me assure you that Bangladesh, as a trusted friend of India, will continue to work together for the betterment of the people of the two countries as well as for a prosperous and peaceful region," she continued.
She conveyed her best wishes to the people of India for the continued peace, progress and prosperity.
"I look forward to working closely with you in the coming days. Please accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration," she concluded.
