People in all walks of life in Khulna on Tuesday observed the 'Martyred Intellectuals Day' paying rich tributes to the country's golden son and daughters who were killed just on the eve of the final victory on the War of Liberation in in 1971.
The country commemorated the brutal killings of intellectuals, a day before the final victory on December 16, after nine-month bloody struggle against the Pakistani occupation forces with a pledge to build the nation following their ideals.
Leaders and activists of different political and socio-cultural organistions, government, non-government organisations and educational institutions placed wreaths at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial in the city on early Tuesday. The day's programme began with placing wreaths by Khulna Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial at 12 past one minute.
Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jasod, CPB, Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna District Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), among others, also paid homage to the great sons of the country by placing wreaths.

Khulna City and District units Awami League (AL) organisd a discussion at the party office in the city marking the day where lawmakers Begum Monnuzan Sufian, Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Mizanur Rahman Mizan and administrator of Khulna district council Sheikh-Harun-ur-Rashid addressed, among others.
