Pledge to build a Bangladesh of communal harmony

Leaders of the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian communities and professionals on Saturday took an oath to build a Bangladesh of communal harmony marking the Community Policing Day-2021 in Rangpur metropolis.

Common people from different walks of life joined them in swearing allegiance against the evil forces that are hatching conspiracies to destroy communal harmony.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Alim Mahmud administered the oath at a harmony rally held at Bangabandhu Mural premises in the metropolis. The slogan of the day this year is 'Police Policy in Mujib Year, Public Service and Harmony '.

The formality of the harmony rally started when the RpMP Chief with leaders of different religious communities, freedom fighters and professionals released pigeons as a symbol of peace as the chief guest.

Former district unit Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee valiant freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu presided over the rally.

Prominent Muslim religious leader Moulana Mohammad Bayezid Hossain, Hindu religious leader Bhakti Priyam Godadhar Goswami Moharaj, Buddhist religious leader Shubhamitra Bhikkhu, Christian religious leader Vijay Akra, RpMP officials and leaders of different units of community policing addressed the rally.

The speakers expressed determination to ensure coexistence of people of all religions and build a secular, peaceful and developed Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation. At the end of the 

harmony rally, the RpMP Chief with other guests cut a cake there.

Besides, voluntary blood donation and cost-free diabetes test camp started at the same venue where many people donated blood voluntarily and conducted blood tests free of cost.

A friendly T20 cricket match was organised at Rangpur Zilla School ground at noon.

Alongside distributing 1,500 saplings and planting tree saplings on both sides of the two-kilometre Mekura Road in Mahiganj area, improved diets were distributed among 1,000 distressed people at six points in the metropolis.

In the afternoon, a discussion meeting on the role of community policing in building a non-communal Bangladesh, award distribution and awarding ceremony was organised at Rangpur Zilla School auditorium.

The RpMP Commissioner attended the discussion as the chief guest with valiant freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of RpMP Md Mehedul Karim and General Secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee Md Zakaria Pintu were present as special guests. The speakers emphasised on realising the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by building a developed Sonar Bangla and maintaining communal harmony.

The chief guest sought the cooperation of all to build a drug free society and called upon everyone to come forward from their respective places to maintain communal harmony.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police started its journey on September 16, 2018.

As the first commissioner of RpMP, Mohammad Abdul Alim Mahmud initiated activities of community policing in the metropolis.

By this time, law enforcement activities and social service initiatives of community policing of RpMP have been appreciated at all levels in the metropolis.
