Platform created to take local e-commerce to global customers

The authorities concerned are working to take the local artisan’s handicrafts to global buyers through its own online platform. In continuation of this, a cross-border e-commerce platform titled ‘Eshop Global’ officially started its journey in the country.

This platform has created the facility of selling Bangladeshi products anywhere in the world and buying products from any country and ease shipment and online payment without any export experience.

Project Director (Joint Secretary) of Access to Information (a2i) Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir inaugurated the ‘Eshop Global’ at a programme held at ICT Tower in the capital on Sunday. Head of Digital Business of a2i Rezwanul Haque Jami presented details about ‘Ekshop Global’ moderated by Ekshop Head of Operation Toufiq Ahmed. 

Rezwanul Haque Jami elaborated on how OneShop Global will act as an international supply chain network for cross-border trading. 

Managing Director Md Enamul Haque of the contracted company El-Nino BD Limited, who is  in charge of the management of the whole process, explains how cross-border trading will create more opportunities for young entrepreneurs of the country. 

Officially launched in October, 2019 as part of a2i, ekShop integrated all 1,800 e-commerce companies, connected 1.80 lakh micro-merchants, aims to connect 80 lakh more, and hopes to connect 1.5 lakh Facebook merchants with the platform by 2025. 

It serves 8 lakh consumers, has connected nearly 6,500 union digital centres, installed 991 collection points nationwide, and partnered with 53 companies. It is developing a network of thousand loT-based smart lockers named DigiBox nationwide to reduce cost, time and visit in terms of delivery.

Accredited as a Digital Public Good (DPG), an open source platform, ekShop technology had used in building 34 digital platforms, in Bangladesh and abroad.

Targeting approximately 20 million non-resident Bangladeshis living abroad, ekShop has expanded its chain of services internationally to Malaysia, Singapore, UAE and Nepal. ekShop is planning to expand its business in other countries in the Gulf region and diligently move into North America and Europe.
