Plant palm tree to prevent lightning strike

Schoolteacher plants 400 palm saplings in Faridpur, 10,000 saplings transplanted in Jashore

A schoolteacher planted 400 palm saplings in Faridpur, while about 10,000 saplings of palm trees were transplanted in various places of Jashore district

Our Faridpur Correspondent reports, being inspired by the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, schoolteacher Nurul Islam has taken up a scheme to plant seeds of 400 Palm saplings in Faridpur. These seeds, when grown into palm trees, will save the environment and decrease damage and death caused by lightning. 

Throughout a day-long programme on Friday, Nurul Islam planted seeds of Palm trees at Brahma Samaj Road, beside the road adjacent to Civil Surgeon office and the Shishu Academy, beside Baitul Aman sarak and places surrounding Government Rajendra College. 

The programme of Palm Tree Plantation programme was inaugurated by Professor Asim Kumar Saha, Vice-Principal of Government Rajendra College. Three of his students Sushmoy Mukherjee, Lahin Munkar and Abir Ehsan assisted the Vice-Principal to sow the palm seeds at the college premises.

Teacher Nurul Islam. son of freedom fighter Fakir Abdur Rahman, works as a science teacher at Faridpur Government Girls School. He informed, he dreamt for a long time to do some welfare-oriented job for society. He said, he would like to do at least one welfare-oriented job every month from his own fund.

Earlier in last April, he distributed breakfast packages among the rickshaw-pullers of the town and in May he distributed vermicelli, sugar and powdered milk among poor people, in June he bore all expenses of Eid of a helpless poor man, in July he planted saplings of 20-Krihnachura and Radhachura trees. Nurul Islam said, he would supervise and maintain the planted palm seeds regularly. Aftermath of the emergence of saplings from the palm seeds, he would devote 100 palm saplings to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his birth centenary.  

Our Jashore Correspondent reports, speakers at a discussion meeting organised by Jashore District Krishak League at Arichpur Government Primary School premises on Sunday have informed, so far 10,000 saplings of palm trees have been transplanted in various places of the district to save the country from the grip of lightning strike and to procure sweet, delicious palm juice and to make gur (molasses) from the juice. 

Officials of Bangladesh Sugar Research Institute also informed the participants of the meeting how to grow a palm sapling from a palm seed and how to prepare palm-juice and tal-gur from the palm tree.

Dr. Amjad Hossain, Director General of BASRI, Jashore, presided over the meeting.

The speakers said that the countrywide programme of planting palm trees has been started under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to keep the country safe from the natural disaster of lightning.  

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken up this programme to ensure safety of lives of people of the country. After successful completion of the programme, human casualties caused by lightning will be decreased in a large extent. That is why, for a secure life, everyone should plant a palm tree, he requested the participants of the meeting.
