The Russian House in Dhaka inaugurated a traveling photo exhibition titled ‘Fyodor Dostoevsky Among His Characters’ on Sunday. This exhibition showcases a collection of 40 photo plates from the Vladimir Dahl Russian State Literary Museum, Moscow.

The exhibition features both widely recognized and rare portraits of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, including images created in the photo studios of Tver and Staraya Russa. It also includes illustrations from some of Dostoevsky’s iconic works, such as ‘Crime and Punishment’, ‘The Idiot’, ‘Demons, ‘The Adolescent’, and ‘The Brothers Karamazov’.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a selection of items from the museum's collection, originally curated by Dostoevsky’s wife, Anna Grigorievna Snitkina. These artifacts were collected during the writer’s lifetime, offering a glimpse into his personal and professional world.

Two significant events in Dostoevsky’s life are prominently highlighted: his time at the Omsk convict prison and his pilgrimage to the Optina Hermitage, where he met Elder Ambrose. These experiences had a profound influence on his works, reflecting the depth of human suffering and spiritual redemption.

Following the inauguration of the exhibition, attendees viewed a documentary titled ‘Universal Dostoyevsky: Russian Writer Who United the World’. The film provided insights into the global relevance of Dostoevsky’s literature and his enduring legacy in connecting readers worldwide through his exploration of universal human themes.

The exhibition is expected to attract literature enthusiasts, students, and scholars, providing them with an opportunity to delve deeper into the life and works of one of Russia’s greatest literary figures.

The traveling exhibition has been organized to celebrate Dostoevsky’s contributions to world literature, making it an important cultural event in Dhaka.
