Five officials from Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) have been suspended for their roles in a vandalism incident at the corporation's headquarters.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning at 11 am at the Petrobangla office in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar. Employees from both Petrobangla and Titas Gas were involved. At least five people were injured.
The suspended officials are Deputy General Managers Md Tarequl Islam and Md Abdul Jalil, Planning Strategy Manager Md Fazlul Haque, Engineering Manager Mohammad Saifuddin, and Senior Assistant Md Nazrul Islam.
Petrobangla announced the suspensions through an official statement on Tuesday. The decision followed a review of CCTV footage.
Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar stated that the unrest might have been sparked by demands from Titas employees for a promotion, despite the individual not being on the seniority list. He also mentioned allegations of corruption among some individuals.
“We have reported the incident to the police and military,” said Sarkar. “Strict measures will be enforced against anyone who breaches discipline. The government remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.”
