A permanent increase in the age limit for entry into all types of government jobs and a ban on fraudulent recruitment tests has been demanded by the All-Party Job Seekers Unity Council.

The leaders made the demand at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the capital on Tuesday.

Their other demands included publishing the results along with the marks obtained in the recruitment examination (preliminary and written) and the application fee for the job to be maximum Tk 100 and at the same time multiple recruitment examinations should be stopped and integrated recruitment examination should be arranged.

Reading out a written statement at the press conference, Taslima Lima, coordinator of the council, said that the young generation of the country are looking towards the government to save them from a very critical yet unfair situation.

It was mentioned in the election manifesto of the government in 2018 that reasonable measures will be taken to increase the age limit for applying for the job as per the situation, she added.

“The election manifesto of the government given to the student community three years ago has not been implemented yet in the midst of the extreme conditions of the pandemic where almost two years were lost due to the on-going trauma of Covid-19. At this point, the employment opportunity has brought the students to a life or death situation,” she said.

Other speakers at the event highlighted the harsh treatment they received from the law enforcers during their peaceful protest regarding the matter in many occasions.

Members of the council and victims of the same fate Manik Hossain Ripon, Omar Farooq, Abdullah-al-Mamun, Nitai Sarkar, Tanvir Hossain, Anwar Sakin, Imtiaz Hossain, Ibn Tanjir, M A Ali, Akshay Roy, Fakir, Al Mamun, Sharmin Sultana, Sumna Rahman, Marjia Moon, Saira Haque, Sajid Rahman and Moinul Hossain were present at the press conference among others.
