Per capita income now $2,824

Despite the ongoing economic crisis, per capita income in Bangladesh has increased by $233 to $2,824 in 2021-22 compared to the previous fiscal year.

In the previous fiscal, the per capita income was $2,591.

This information was given in the annual report on the activities of the ministries and departments for the fiscal year 2021-22 presented at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam gave details in the press briefing at the secretariat on Monday.

He said that the GDP growth rate in the fiscal year 2021-22 was 7.25 percent and per capita income in Bangladesh was $2,824.

During this period, the revenue collection was Tk 3,42,400 crore, he said, adding that revenue collection growth rate was 4.18 percent.

The export earnings of Bangladesh increased by 34.38 percent and stood at $52.08 billion during the time.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the foreign direct investment (FDI) in the fiscal year 2021-22 was $3.44 billion.

Remittance sent by expatriate Bangladeshis was $21.03 billion during this time  and  9,84,759 Bangladeshi workers went abroad with job.

He also said, “Tk 2,03,783 crore was spent on 1,836 projects in theannual development program (ADP), which was 92.80 percent of the total allocation. On the other hand, 333 projects were completed during the last fiscal year."

At the end of the last fiscal year, 16.07 lakh tonnes of food grains were stored, which has increased by 10.98 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

During the time, the government has given subsidy of Tk 15,172.79 crore to different sectors including fertilizer, irrigation and electricity.
