Traffic congestion from the central Shaheed Minar of Chitalmari Upazila through Bank Road in the north to Upazila Mor and Thana Road in the south to Baro Bridge is now a constant suffering for the people of Chitalmari. Sometimes it takes 30 to 40 minutes to take this five minute journey at different times of the day. And such a reality has become a constant companion for the people of Chitalmari upazila.
The victims of the traffic jam on the road at the Chowrangi junction are people of all walks of life.
The main reason of heavy traffic at this busiest intersection every day are the van stands, Mahindra stands, auto stands as well as sidewalk shops.
The various stands and cars at this bend which is narrower than the innumerable vehicles of different types, are running uncontrollably.
As well as passenger transport and freight trucks going from Dhaka to Bagerhat via Chitalmari and from Gopalganj to Bagerhat via Chitalmari which are carrying passengers and goods from Thana Gate of Chitalmari Sadar to Upazila Junction, this traffic jam is causing indescribable misery to all classes of people. There is no end to the suffering of the passengers and the drivers as well in this long traffic jams.

The aggrieved people here have demanded the concerned authorities to take permanent measures to solve this long-standing problem.
Talking to many of the passengers on the road, they said that this problem is not a recent issue.
To address this, the authorities need to take alternative measures such as construction of bypass roads or relocation of van stands, Mahindra stands, auto stands and sidewalk shops or proper supervision by appropriate manpower.
