Hundreds of people in Madhainagar union under Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district are suffering a lot, as a total of eight rural roads in the area are yet to be paved. These roads are heavily dilapidated.

The roads to be paved includes 3 km road from Poushar to Guarakhi and Kumarpara, 4.5 km road from Poushar to Madhainagar Bazar, 4.5 km road from Sarappur Pakar Matha to Kalibari Bazar, 4 km road from Saratala to Madhainagar via Madarjani and 3 km road in Khordmadhainagar village.

There is no end to the suffering of the local residents as these roads that about 19 km long in total are yet to be paved. When it rains, people using these roads have to walk on these muddy and slippery roads. As a result, even pedestrians cannot use these roads during monsoon, let alone vehicles. As there is no step to pave these roads, people are regularly suffering.

On the other hand, there is no one to see the miserable condition of these roads during the monsoon season. More than ten thousand people including school and college students use these roads. Due to the dilapidated condition, people are currently using these roads at great risk.

As these roads are very important for educational, medical, employment and trade purposes for the people living in the area, local people have been demanding these roads to be paved for a long time now.

According to local people, these roads become impassable only after a little rain. As soon as the rain falls, these roads get covered under inches deep mud. Many slip and fell in the mud, injuring themselves. Students cannot go to school or college on time as these rural roads are the only important public transport for thousands of people in a few villages of the upazila.

Bandia Kumud Ranjan Kujur, a resident of Khordmadhainagar village of the upazila said, “People are suffering extremely as the roads in the area are not concrete.

Every day students have to travel through these roads. Due to the heavy rains of the last few days, the whole road has become muddy and big potholes have been created in places. As there is mud on the road, it is not possible to move on this road. Even, sick patient cannot be taken to the hospital on time for this.”

Hasan Ali of Guarakhi village and Baher Ali of Bilaspur village of the same union said, “The three-kilometer road from Poushar to Guarakhi via Bilashpur is in a dilapidated condition and unsuitable for movement. We received assurance from various authorities but the condition of these roads remained the same. We demand to pave these important roads quickly.”

Tarash Upazila Engineer Md Abu Sayed said all the roads in the upazila will be paved in stages. He also offered to provide details about the projects of paving the roads.
