Extreme hot temperature and heat-wave have gripped Rajshahi at the onset of the summer season. For the last couples of days, the highest day temperature in the country is being felt in Rajshahi.
Meteorological office sources in Rajshahi informed, though the recorded temperature was highest in Rajshahi but the heat seems unbearable due to absence of rainfall. There was only 0.4 millimetre of rainfall on last April-4. As a result, due to extreme heatwave, a drought like situation is prevailing in entire Rajshahi region including in the Barind region.
According to the sources, the highest day temperature in Rajshahi was 41.2 degree Celsius at 3-00 pm on Friday while for the last one week, the highest day temperature in Rajshahi is fluctuating from 38 to 41 deg Celsius.
Rezwanul Haque, Senior Meteorological Officer of Rajshahi Meteorology Office informed, the temperature between 36 to 38 deg Celsius is termed as mild heatwave, 38 to 40 deg Celsius is termed as moderated heatwave and 40 to 42 deg Celsius is termed as extreme heatwave. So, Rajshahi region is now experiencing an extreme heatwave.
It is learnt, due to absence of rainfall, the humidity of air has been decreased resulting a scorching heat from after the sunrise till to evening. Specially, the temperature at the noon becomes unbearable.
The livelihood of common people has tough and frustrating due to extreme heat. Even, the condition of animals and birds of the city seems hard. The day labourers were turning sweating and tired just after starting of their day’s job. They were not being able to continue their works for a long time rather were taking rest under the shade of trees or under shadow of construction sites after working for an hours of less.
Meanwhile, the condition of people staying in houses or at the office has become further unbearable due to frequent load shedding.
Meteorological Department sources in Rajshahi informed, the day temperature unlikely to wane unless there was rainfall. He predicted, there was no indication of waning of day temperature during next couples of days but he hoped, the sky often turning cloudy and rainfall may occur within a short span of time.
