BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that the hopes and expectations of the people over the past three months have not been fulfilled.
He said that after August 5, when Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet, MPs, the Chief Justice, and the chief Khatib of Baitul Mukarram fled, a vacuum was created in the country. In that situation, Dr Yunus formed an advisory council with some of his associates on August 8. This government has now completed three months on November 8. The people had expectations, dreams, and hopes, the biggest of which was that the price of essential goods will go down and the people of Bangladesh would survive by having enough to eat. The expectation was that the syndicate created during the Awami League's tenure would be broken and the prices of goods would become reasonable, but that did not happen.
He made these comments while exchanging views with journalists at his residence in Chuadanga town on Friday evening.
He further said the people of Bangladesh thought they would regain their voting rights. They believed they would elect their preferred candidates. But that election has not yet been held. The BNP demanded a road march and an election within a reasonable time, but that, too, did not happen. The government said it will hold elections, but has not announced a specific date or month. If that announcement is made, the people of the country will be more enthusiastic and hopeful. Until it is announced, the people will remain anxious and disappointed.
Responding to a question about a statement from an AB Party leader in Chattogram regarding the need for necessary reforms for a free and fair election, Dudu said, BNP does not need any preparation for the election. We have been prepared for 16 to 18 years. Whenever an election is held, we will have multiple candidates for any seat. So, BNP’s preparations can be made in a very short time.
When asked if he would participate in the upcoming election in the Chuadanga-1 constituency, Shamsuzzaman Dudu replied, I am from Chuadanga, and I have been elected a Member of Parliament multiple times from here.
Since the birth of BNP, I am the only former MP from Chuadanga who is still alive. I have always been involved with the people of Chuadanga, both in good times and bad. But my field of politics is national.
I am the Vice Chairman of BNP, and I have also been the president of the central Chhatra Dal, the long-term general secretary and convener of the central Krishak Dal. My field of politics covers the entire country. However, as a person from this specific area, I have always been closely involved with the people of Chuadanga, and I still am.
He further added, whatever decision the party makes, I will accept and follow, whether it's regarding movement, reform, or elections. In the coming days, the region covering Chuadanga, Meherpur, Kushtia, and Jhenaidah will remain a BNP stronghold.
If the people can vote freely, BNP will win, and I firmly believe that will be the case in the future as well.
