People of northern districts suffering, throbbing in cold

Lives of people in the northern region of the country turned miserable due to ongoing moderate cold-wave for the last three-day.  

The sun remained elusive for the last several days. Specially, the sufferings of low-income group of people due to wanting of adequate warm cloths knew no bounds. The condition of elderly people and children from the ultra-poor families is stated to be miserable. Many of such poor people are trying to get rid of the bitter cold by burning fire with leaves, straw and fire-woods.

On December-20 (Sunday), the lowest day temperature recorded 7 degree Celsius in Kurigram while it was 6.6 degree Celsius the day before.  

Subol Chandra Sarker, Officer-in-Charge of Rajarhat Agriculture Weather Observatory in Kurigram, informed that the lowest day temperature of the district was 7 degree Celsius on Sunday. However, he opined, the temperature may further drop during next 72-hour.

People of the northern region informed, they can not go out of their homes to join work because of a high intensity of the cold. Moreover, people, especially children and the older people were suffering from various cold-related diseases. 

Most of the people of the region being ultra-poor, they do not have the ability to purchase warm clothes that is why they are suffering from the bitter cold. 

People of Panchgarch district are also suffering badly due to bitter cold. Many people turned unemployed due to low day temperature. On Sunday, the lowest day temperature in Tentula was recorded 7 degree Celsius.  

Russel Shah, Officer-in-charge of Tentulia Meteorological Centre informed, on 20 December (Sunday) the lowest day temperature recorded in the district was 7 degree Celsius while on Saturday, the temperature was 7.8 degree Celsius.  

Meanwhile, a mid-level cold wave is blowing through Chuadanga district. On Sunday morning the lowest day temperature in the district was 7.6 degree Celsius.

Samadul Haque, Officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Office informed, the temperature may drop further.

According to Meteorological sources, a mid-level cold wave has been blowing through Rangpur division, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Satkhira, Rajshahi and Natore districts and would continue further. 

The weather forecast of next 24-hour starting from 9-00 AM said dry weather may continue throughout the country.

Light, moderate to dense fog may be hung from midnight till morning in the river catchment areas of the country and the temperature at night may increase slightly.
