Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Saturday said people must follow 11-point restrictions to contain the spread of Covid-19.
"There is no need to impose lockdown to stem the current spike of coronavirus, if 11-point restriction is strictly followed," he told the inaugural function of CT scan machine and dialysis unit at Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital.
Referring to the yesterday's 4,378 coronavirus positive cases in a single day, the health minister said infection rate of Covid-19 is increasing sharply in Bangladesh like other countries of the world.
As per the WHO standard, Bangladesh remained well below the danger line for over three months but authorities issued a fresh alert on November 27, 2021 for Bangladesh after the outbreak of the highly contagious new South African Omicron variant.
The minister, however, said the government set a target to administer 280 million or 28 crore vaccine doses including booster ones.
"We are receiving huge quantity of vaccines every month," he said adding that works were underway to expedite the nationwide vaccination campaign.
He said over 50 million or five crore people received two vaccine doses while more than eight crore people received the first dose.
