Locals are suffering a lot due to a broken wooden bridge over a canal at Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat. This is causing extreme misery to the pedestrians as they are crossing the canal using the broken bridge taking risks. Locals demanded immediate repair of the bridge from concerned authorities.
According to the victims, the deck and structure of the bridge over the canal in front of Dakshin(South) Shibpur Government Primary School in the upazila have collapsed, forcing people to cross at risk.
Minor accidents happen every day while crossing the bridge. In such a bad situation, ordinary people are in dire straits. People have been suffering a lot for a long time as the bridge has not been repaired. So, the suffering people of the surrounding areas demanded immediate repair.
Ahsanul Haque, a student, Kazi Lablu Hossain, a trader, Ferdous Khan of Shibpur village, Sona Mollah and many others expressed their frustration and said that the bridge has become unusable for a long time and many people using the bridge are suffering miserably. This bridge is the only way to travel to Chitalmari Sadar Bazar. But for some unknown reason it is not being repaired. They demanded quick reforms of the bridge.
Golam Mostafa, a UP member of Shibpur's 9th ward, said that he has trying for a long with authorities concerned but unfortunately no positive response yet to repair the damaged bridge. Nevertheless he expressed the view that he would continue his try to repair it as early as possible.
