Although the mass gathering at National Parade Ground to start the celebration of Mujib Barsho and birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 17 has been cancelled, mass people will be able to enjoy the programmes from home through the media.
Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, said that mass gathering at the National Parade Ground has been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak as well as considering public health and welfare of the mass people.
“All the programmes at the National Parade Ground will be held on a limited scale and people from all walks of life will be able to enjoy them on media like television, online and social media,” he added.
He made the comments while talking to media after attending a programme at International Mother Language Institute at Segunbagicha in the capital on Friday.
Earlier, the programmes were scheduled to be held with the participation of more than one-lakh guests from home and abroad, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and diplomats from different countries. But, the programmes have been revised considering the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the government, the programmes will be held at a suitable time later.
Meanwhile, the officials at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, Prime Minister Sheik Hasina will go to Tungipara of Gopalganj in the morning on March 17 on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day.
According to the PMO officials, Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, along with her family members will place floral wreath at the graveyard of Bangabandhu at 1000am and also take part at a function on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day.
Before the journey to Tungipara, she will place floral wreath at the statue of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi and returning from Gopalganj, Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programmes centring the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and Mujib Barsho at the National Parade Ground in capital Dhaka in the afternoon at 400pm.
According to government officials, March 17 has been declared a national holiday and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the National Children Day will be observed countrywide and also globally.
