The journalist leaders at a rally put emphasis on introducing pension for unemployed journalists above 60 years and ensuring land allocation for housing project for journalists on Thursday.
They said this at a rally organized by BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists in front of National Press Club in the capital.
In the rally, the journalist leaders sought united cooperation from all the members of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) for fulfilling their ten-point demands including immediate formation of 10th Wage Board and implementation of the Ninth Wage Board Award, forming salary structure and wage board for television journalists, immediate passage of Mass Media Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, , giving appointment letter to journalists in all media houses and regularizing payment of salary-allowance and arrears, formulating National Broadcasting Act, introducing retirement allowance/pension for unemployed journalists above 60 years and ensuring land allocation for housing project for journalists.
BFUJ president Omar Faruque said they will submit a memorandum to the state minister for information and broadcasting on February 27 in support of its demand for immediate formation of 10th Wage Board and implementation of the Ninth Wage Board Award.
He said the apex body of journalists will hold a rally before submitting the memorandum on February 27 as part of its ongoing movement.
Besides, the BFUJ president announced to hold a rally in Barishal at 11am on February 29.
Speaking at the rally, the BFUJ leaders also demanded introducing identical wage structure for all electronic media, including Television channels, online and radio and payment of arrears of the 9th Wage Board Award.
With BFUJ president Omar Faruque in the chair, the rally was addressed, among others, by journalist leaders Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul, Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, Khairuzzaman Kamal, Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Kuddus Afrad, Sazzad Alam Khan Topu and Khairul Alam, Karmachari Federation leaders Motiur Rahman Talukdar and Khirul Islam, Sramik Federation leaders Alamgir Hossain and Masudul Ahsan, Nari Sangbadik leaders Nasimun Ara Haque Minu, Nasima Soma, Ummul Wara Sweety and Nure Jannat Akter Sima.
DUJ organizing secretary A Jihadur Rahman Jihad conducted the rally.
