The much awaited dream of the nation has come true with the inauguration of the Payra Bridge constructed over the Payra River at Lebukhali in Patuakhali district. Since long, southern region remained one of the least developed parts to lack of connectivity with the rest of the country. Besides, the country’s southern part, which has canals, rivers and water-bodies, is going to be the most affected by climate change.
Therefore, Payra Bridge will help the people of remote area of southern region get access to essential public services and they will also be deriving the benefits as it has paved the way for travelling to Patuakhali from Barisal without crossing ferry.

We hope huge employment opportunities will be created after the beginning of vehicular movement on the Payra Bridge and the economic scenario of the south region will change. The Payra Bridge is like another Padma Bridge for the people of the south region, and it will be contributing immensely to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in various ways immediately.

Besides, the bridge would not only increase tourism opportunities but also expand business as the government is setting up Payra Sea Port. Therefore, communication network will be established all over the Bangladesh when Padma Bridge will be opened.
The bridge has a "bridge health monitor" system, which has been installed for the first time in a bridge in the country. And the system will send signals of natural disasters, including thunderstorms and earthquakes.
Bangladesh is set to achieve its vision of reaching middle-income status by its 50th birthday on December 16, this year. Therefore, appropriate infrastructure is needed to sustain the development momentum.
We hope this bridge will groom the south’s youth folk, women and disadvantageous section of people suitable for getting employed and thus build themselves as demand-based workforce of the country.
