Since long, southern region remained one of the least developed parts to lack of connectivity with the rest of the country. Besides, the country’s southern part, which has canals, rivers and water-bodies, is going to be the most affected by climate change.
Therefore, Payra Bridge will help the people of remote area of southern region get access to essential public services and they will also be deriving the benefits as it has paved the way for travelling to Patuakhali from Barisal without crossing ferry.

The bridge has a "bridge health monitor" system, which has been installed for the first time in a bridge in the country. And the system will send signals of natural disasters, including thunderstorms and earthquakes.
Bangladesh is set to achieve its vision of reaching middle-income status by its 50th birthday on December 16, this year. Therefore, appropriate infrastructure is needed to sustain the development momentum.
