Artisans are busy making idols of Goddess Durga for the upcoming Durga Puja at Galachipa upazila in Patuakhali district. They are working to hand over the idols to the worshipers in time. Durga Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, is held every autumn. Starting with Shubha Mahalaya on 6th October, performing Bodhan on 11th October, Durga Puja will end with Vijaya Dashmi on 15th October. The main idol of Goddess Durga is made in Kalibari, Sahabari, Poddarbari, Dasbari and every union of Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali. The potters said that 29 idols are being made for the upazila this time. It was seen on the spot that many artisans in the area are busy making idols with bamboo-straw and soil on bamboo-made platforms. Artisan Subhash Pal said that this time he has taken an order to make 9 idols. 5 of the idols are almost completed in a month and a half, and the work of the remaining 4 are in progress.
Remuneration is more or less according to the size of the idol. Subrata Roy, president of Galachipa Theater, said, "As always, Goddess Durga will descend and destroy evil forces and establish Peace." We are eagerly waiting to welcome Goddess Durga.Tapas Dutta, general secretary of Galachipa upazila branch of Jatiya Puja Udjapan Parishad, said Durga Puja is being held at several Mandaps in the Galachipa upazila every year. Everyone will come to the Puja Mandaps following the health rules. This time too there is a possibility of arranging Durga Puja in 29 places of 12 unions under the upazila.
