Patients get financial aid in Mymensingh

In Mymensingh district, cheques worth Tk 2 crore were distributed among 400 patients suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke, paralyzed, congenital heart disease and thalassemia.

Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque distributed the cheques as the chief guest at a chque distribution function presided over by Deputy Director of Social Services Abu Abdullah Md Wali Ullah in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday morning. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Md Jahangir Alam was present on the occasion as special guest. The chief guest in his speech said that the Department of Social Services is implementing this programme under the special initiative social security programme of the Prime Minister. The government is on the side of the helpless people of the society and is implementing developmental programs. Authorities are determined to implement the vision of establishing a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

It is to be noted that every year about 3 lakh people die of these diseases in the country and more than 3 lakh people are suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, paralyzed stroke, congenital heart disease and thalassemia. Just as patients suffering from these diseases die of starvation due to lack of funds, his family becomes destitute by paying for medical treatment. 

The Ministry of Social Welfare, through the Department of Social Services, is implementing a social security programme to provide one-time financial assistance of Tk 2 crore. The programme started nationwide from the financial year 2013-14. From the financial year 2015-16, a total of 2,073 patients suffering from cancer, kidney and other chronic diseases have been distributed checks in Mymensingh district till now.
