Patharghata village declared eco-friendly

Patharghata village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi has been declared as the 'environment friendly' in Rajshahi district. At the same time, the Saint Joseph Junior High School of the village has been declared a 'Green School'. 

The declarations were given at a function organised jointly by the Patharghata Environment-Friendly Village Committee, Shishu Forum and Youth Forum with assistance from World Vision Bangladesh, Godagari, AP on Tuesday afternoon.

Presided over by Belal Uddin Sohel, Chairman of Deopara Union Parishad the function was attended, among others, by Atiaul Islam, UNO of Godagari.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Marium Ahmed, Deputy Director, Field Operation (Plain land cluster) of World Vision Bangladesh Jeny Mildrad de Crush, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of Godagari Otonu Sarker, Father of Nobai Bot tola Church Arturo Spegialepime, Head Mistress of Siant Joseph Junior High School Sister Kalyani Palma attended the function as special guests. Among others, the function was attended, by World Vision Bangladesh AP Programme Officers Philip Biswas, Milton Rozario and Shyamol H Costa. 

The speakers at the function urged the villagers to use improved variety of ovens, hygienic latrines, collection and storage of rainwater as a safe mode of drinking water and to construct climate and disaster-tolerant houses having sufficient sunshine and light. Every house should have a system to reuse disposable materials like metals, glass, papers and plastics and every family should cultivate their own crops, vegetables and fruits using biotechnology and bio-fertiliser in their homestead gardens and the surroundings.

Every house should also have a tree beside the house- fruit, medicinal or wooden and all houses should use renewable solar energy and the villagers should use vermin fertiliser, liquid bio-fertiliser and cow-dung fertiliser. Any female or male member, young man or woman from every house should be trained to speak and suggest the villagers about the salient benefits of living in an environment-friendly house and in a village surrounded by a clean and green environment.
