Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj SM Ferdous has announced the cancellation of passports of hiding foreign returnees who are not staying in home wwuarantine in Manikganj. The announcement was made through a public statement on Tuesday night.
The statement said that if the absconding foreign returnees do not contact the district administration within Wednesday the process of cancelling their passports will begin.
According to Manikganj District Police, a total of 2,700 migrants have returned to Manikganj between March 1 to March 20. Out of these 1,388 people returned between March 8 to March 25. As of Wednesday, 792 people have come under quarantine in Manikganj. At the same time, 293 people were released from home quarantine as 14 days had passed. But the remaining large number of expatriates were not found in their respective addresses.
The administration is working in the field to find them. Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous said that till now 10 persons were fined various amount for not remaining in home quarantine in Manikganj. As the administration could not find them it is believed that they have been hiding deliberately.
Meanwhile, the army is working in Manikganj to assist the district administration in preventing coronavirus. On Wednesday morning army men along with police men were seen at Manikganj bus stand area giving advice to people about coronavirus.
Army members, like the Manikganj district administration, ordered that all such places including shopping malls, business centers, restaurants, amusement parks, fairs, social events, weekly hats, tea shop remain closed until further notice.
