Parks, open fields essential for a modern city: Atiqul

Dhaka North City Corporation has taken measures to ensure separate corners for children in parks, playgrounds and recreational areas as it is a necessity of a modern city.

DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam made the comment during his speech in the event of 'Vintage Car and Bike Show' on Friday.

The DNCC mayor was present as the chief guest at the 'Vintage Car and Bike Show' organized by the Italian Embassy at the Italian Embassy Park in Gulshan-2 in the capital to mark the 50th anniversary of friendship between Bangladesh and Italy. 

About the show Atiqul said, "Such shows not only encourage cross.-border friendship, but also show the passion that Bengalis carry. Such shows will further strengthen the ties between the two countries."

"Unfortunately, we have lost many of our historical monuments. Every country in the world preserves their heritage. This is very important. Future generations will learn from history and heritage. The cars on display here carry many fascinating stories and histories," said the mayor.

Addressing the people of the city, he said that in order to live in harmony, everyone needs to build good relations with the neighbours and socialise instead of being crippled by screen-time. 

The mayor said, “We have to organize various festivals and fairs in the neighborhoods. This will bring peace and order in the society and build good empathetic relationships of understandin.” 

Parliament member Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister of External Affairs was present as special guest on the occasion. 

He said, "Italy and Bangladesh have a long friendship of 50 years. This 'Vintage Car and Bike Show' organized by the Italian Embassy will further strengthen the good relations between the two countries."

Anjan Chowdhury, proprietor of Maasranga Television was also present along with others at the time.
