‘Panchali to Oscar’ film screening, workshop begin in Mymensingh June 30

For aspiring Bengali filmmakers, there is no alternative to the study of Satyajit Ray. In memory of this cinematic legend, the Bangladesh Press Club, Mymensingh District, is organizing a tribute titled "Panchali to Oscar, supported by the Inabella Foundation and International Academy of Film and Media. The event promises a deep dive into Ray's cinematic world, featuring film screenings, workshops, and an art school drawing competition.

The two-day event kicks off on June 30 at 4 PM at the Boishakhi stage in Zainul Abedin Park. The opening ceremony will be graced by Kabir Bin Anwar, former cabinet secretary of the Bangladesh government and chairman of Isabela Foundation, as the chief guest. Mohit Ur Rahman Shanto, MP, Mymensingh-4 will be the guest of honour, and Ekramul Haque Titu, Mayor, Mymensingh City Corporation will inaugurate the event. 

Md. Farid Khan, President, Bangladesh Press Club will preside over the ceremony. Other guests include MA Wahed, MP,Mymensingh,-11, Umme Salma Tanzia, Divisional Commissioner, Mymensing and Dider-E-Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhur ,DC, Mymensing

The inaugural screening will feature Ray's classic, "Pather Panchali." The following day, "Three Daughters" and "Ashanisanket" will be shown at the same venue.

The event also includes "The Art of Film Direction" workshop from July 1-3, 11 AM to 5 PM, at the Zilla Parishad conference room.

Ujjal Chakraborty, India's national award-winning author and Satyajit Ray researcher will conduct the workshop exploring Ray's filmmaking aesthetics. Participants will receive certificates and the opportunity to create short films based in Mymensingh. Affordable accommodation and food are available for out-of-town trainees.

All film screenings are free and open to the common people at Zainul Abedin Park's Boishakhi stage by the Brahmaputra river.
