Panchagarh farmers happy with jute yield, fair price

Farmers are happy over bumper jute production and getting fair price of the cash crop this season as the growers have already started harvesting jute with much enthusiasm in the district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials of Panchagarh said a bumper production of jute has been achieved in the district this year and per mound jute is being sold Taka 2300 to 2500 in the local markets.

Farmers cultivated jute on 12,908 hectares of land in the district with the production target of 1,50,808 bells of jute this year, they added.

Subash Chandra, a jute farmer of Sadar upazila said he cultivated jute on 5 bighas of land and earned Taka 80,000 by selling it while production cost was Taka 30,000.

Deputy Director of DAE of Panchagarh Abu Hanif told BSS, a bumper production of jute has been achieved due to favourable weather along with supplying high quality of jute seeds, fertilizer and insecticide to the farmers by DAE.
