The government is optimistic to inaugurate the Padma Bridge by June next year.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader made the disclosure while speaking virtually as the chief guest at a discussion on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday on the banks of the Padma in Naria, Shariatpur on Tuesday.
Obaidul Quader said, “I am giving good news to the people on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Bridge by next June. The World Bank withdrew its fund from the Padma Bridge and made false allegations of corruption. But the transparency and honesty of Sheikh Hasina's government has been proved to the world. Sheikh Hasina's courageous step has built a bridge of pride on Padma River.”
He also asked the people of Naria, who are affected by river erosion, to have confidence on Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim presided over the programme. He said, “This is the first time in the last 30 years that no houses have been affected in Naria due to river erosion. This made the people of Naria happy and confident. This erosion has been prevented due to the dam. The dam was built under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The people of Naria are grateful to the Prime Minister.”
