Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, has instructed the immediate opening of registrations for dot BD and dot Bangla domains.
State Minister addresses during an ICANN outreach programme held at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) building on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister set a two-week deadline for BTRC to finalise policies and operational measures. Once implemented, private companies will be able to offer dot-BD and dot-Bangla domains to the public.
Palak emphasised adherence to international guidelines for domain management, stressing efficiency in domain availability and registration processes. He underscored the importance of citizen satisfaction and operational efficiency, citing examples like the popular 999 emergency service.
The 2-day event, jointly organised by BsTRC, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and Bangladesh Domain Industry, features seminars, round tables, and panel discussions involving telecommunications and IT experts from public and private sectors, academia, and service providers.
Key figures, including Samiran Gupta of BTRC, Sajid Rahman, and Mamun-or-Rashid, participated in the sessions aimed at enhancing domain industry practices and accessibility in Bangladesh.
