Pakundida bridge lies useless

Although a bridge was built a few years ago on the river Singua between Patuabhanga and Narandi Union adjacent to Eidga ground in Narandi Union of Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj, it is of no use to the people.

Because the bridge was built without building a road, it is standing on one foot. Of the two sides of the bridge, the river water submerges one side, and low crop land lies on the other side of the bridge.

There is no road, no way to climb up the bridge as the soil has not been filled.  People of the two unions would have been benefited if the roads on both sides of the bridge had been filled with soil and made suitable for people to walk on.

The victims of Eidgah and the people of the area are suffering here. The bridge was constructed by Pakundia Upazila Project Implementation Office.

Talking to several locals on the spot, they complained that there was no government road and that land had been purchased locally at a nominal price and a bridge had been built where the road needed to be built earlier.

No soil has yet been filled on either side of the bridge. As a result, the bridge is not operative at present. If there was a road then the people of the two unions would have been benefit. So, the locals demand that a road be built officially.

Narandi Union Parishad Chairman Shafiqul Islam said that the people of the two unions would have been benefited if there had been a connecting road on both sides of the bridge over the Tsingua River next to the Eidgah.

Therefore, in the last monthly meeting of the upazila, he spoke to Sahabuddin, the chairman of Patuabhanga Union Parishad, if there was a joint road, and then the people of the two unions would be benefitted.

Asked about this, Upazila Project Officer Raushan Karim said, "Now we do not have any  allocation in our hands. If any allocation comes, we will look into it seriously."
