Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Pakistan’s ‘horrible face’ was revealed to the world in 1971 when the Pakistani army was torturing, oppressing and slaughtering innocent citizens of Bangladesh.

“Women were inhumanely tortured. This notoriety of the Pakistani army exposed Pakistan’s hideous face to the world,” he said at Jaisalmer on Saturday while paying tributes to soldiers and their sacrifices.

Modi spent Diwali with soldiers at the strategic Longewala post in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer.

Referring to Pakistan’s atrocities in 1971, he said, “to divert global attention from all this, Pakistan attacked our western borders”.

“Pakistan thought that by attacking India’s western border it would be able to wash away all its sins in Bangladesh by blaming India,” he said.

“But Pakistan was humiliated by the appropriate response by our soldiers.”

“Now, as the 50th anniversary of the 1971 War and the Battle of Longewala draws nearer, a few weeks later, we will celebrate its 50th anniversary, the golden jubilee of this glorious golden page. In this context, I wanted to come here today,” he said.

“The whole nation will feel proud and courageous to hear about the victorious tale of our heroes, which will provide the new and future generations an opportunity to become inspired by this strength.”
