Pahela Baishakh celebrated in districts

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla new year,  has been celebrated in  different districts across the country with due fervour on Sunday. Our Correspondents reports:

Pahela Baishakh was celebrated in Jhenaidah on Sunday. Jhenaidah district administration, different government and non-government organizations and cultural organizations chalked out elaborate programmes marking the Pahela Baishakh. Jhenaidah district administration brought out a colourful rally better known as Mangal Shobhajatra from Old DC Court premises that ended at District Shilpakala Academy. Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Rafiqul Islam led the rally where the processionists participated with colourful masks, dolls, birds and other traditional contents of Bangladesh.

Later, a discussion marking the Pahela Baishakh was held at the District Shilpakala Academy where DC SM Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of police (SP) Azim ul Ahsan and Awami League district unit General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu, among others, spoke.

The speakers said the nation feels proud when the Bangla was recognized as the International Language throughout the globe. The day was also celebrated at upazila level.

Narail Correspondent writes:  Pahela Baishakh was celebrated in Narail on Sunday with festive mood. To welcome the new year, district administration and Sammilito Sangskritik Jote organized various programmes at Sultan Mancha of Narail Government Victoria College and District Shilpakala Academy premises. The programmes of Bengali New Year celebration in the town began with the musical soiree of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote on Sultan Manch at 7:00 am. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ashfaqul Haque Chowdhury formally introduced the programme by lighting the mangal prodip at 8:00 am.

Police Super Md. Mehedi Hasan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sajeda Begum, Narail Municipality Mayor Anjuman Ara, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shaswati Sheel, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Akhtar, Narail Government Victoria College’s former Principal Professor Md. Rabiul Islam, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote’s president Malay Kumar Kundu were present on the occasion. 

Traditional ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’ was started from Sultan Mancha premises that paraded the main road of the town in the morning. A huge number of people joined the "Nabo Barsho" festivities in the town. On this occasion, people from all walks of life wear traditional Bengali dresses. Young women wear white sarees with red borders and adorn themselves with bangles, flowers and ‘tips’ while men wear white pyjamas and panjabi or kurta. On the occasion, improved traditional foods were distributed to jail inmates, patients in hospitals and orphanages.

Chuadanga Correspondent adds: Pohela Baishakh was observed under the auspices of District Administration, Educational Institutes, Socio-cultural organisations and Upazila Administration in Chuadanga district on Sunday.  The programmes included ‘Mongal Shubhajatra’, cultural competitions, painting competitions, essay writing, folk songs, discussion meetings and Baishakhi melas. 

Lathi Khela was arranged at different points, especially in villages of four upazilas of the district. 

On the day at 8 am the Mongal Shobhojatra (colorful rally) was brought out from VJ Government High School to Shilpakala Academy Chattor led by Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP. Dr. Kissinger Chakma, DC, RM Faizur Rahman, SP, officials of different offices and students of educational institutes participated.  A three-day Baishakhi Mela was inaugurated by Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP-1 at Shilpakala Academy Chattar.  A discussion was held on the day. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Kissinger Chakma, DC. Soliaman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP, was present as the chief guest. while RM Faizur Rahman, SP, addressed it as the special guest. 

Improve diet was supplied at Shishu Paribar, hospitals and jails. Besides, sweets were distributed among children in different areas of the district. Housewives cooked `Khir’ using date molasses and gave this to the children as so called sinni.
