Paddy, rice procurement drive begins in Ishwardi

As part of the nationwide Boro paddy, boiled rice and wheat procurement drive that began on May 7, the government started collecting food grain (paddy, wheat and boiled rice) from the farmers at the government godown at Ishwardi in Pabna on Tuesday.

Local Member of Parliament Galibur Rahman Sherif inaugurated the procurement programme.

Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Subir Kumar Das presided over the inauguration programme held at Ishwardi food godown in the morning.

Upazila Food Controller Officer Shahinur Rahman, Control and Movement officer of the godown Mahfuz Al Asad, Muladuli food godown manager Sheikh M Abdul Hannan, Upazila Additional Agricultural Officer Mahmuda Motmainna, Iswardi Press Club president Mostak Ahmed Kiron and others were also present at the programme.

Mahfuz Al Asad said that they have set a target to procure 16, 540 metric tons (MT) boiled rice, 279 metric tons (MT) paddy and 364 metric tons (MT) wheat. Boro rice is being procured at Tk 45 per kilogram while Boro paddy is purchased at Tk 32 per kg. Wheat is being procured at Tk 34. The procurement drive will continue till 31 August.
