Paddy drying machine could play significant role in saving the food grains of the farmers every year and help strengthen their socio-economic state as huge food grains, especially paddy is affected badly due to rain in the monsoon.
The machineries section engineers of the agriculture research institutes have to expand their activities in this regard, said additional director of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) for Jashore region Akhlas Uddin.
He was addressing a gathering at the conference room of the deputy director of the DAE in Jhenaidah on Saturday afternoon.
Presided over by DAE Jhenaidah Sadar upazila agriculture officer (UAO) Jahidul Karim, additional director said, it is a common feature in Bangladesh that huge ripen paddy is damaged on the standing position or after harvesting stacked on the plots.
Most of the paddy grains start germination within a few days of wet. The farmers incur loss a mentionable portion of the paddy grains that causes heavy loss for the farmers. Further, the country losses huge food grains due to the rainfall.
Terming the natural disaster as havoc, the DAE high official said the food grains damaged partially get wet and losses its quality of good food grain.
Finding no other alternatives, the farmers have to sale the same at a below rate in the market. And, the irony of fate that the consumers have to enjoy the rice which gets bad smell after cooking.
He cited mini that mini size drying machines could help dry up the wet paddy grains at the farmers’ level with electricity at a lower cost. He urged upon the engineering section heads of different government and private sectors to manufacture mini drying machine for paddy or other crops so that the farmers could use the same at their doorsteps and preserve the crops safely.
