Forest Department raided a sawmills at Mollarhat in Mongla upazila of Bagerhat on Saturday afternoon for setting up the sawmill within 10-km of the Sundarbans.
Upon hearing the news of the raid, three owners of the saw mill Abu Bakkar, Sobahan Mollah and Mohsin Mosalli fled.
Confirming the information, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of East Sundarbans Md. Enamul Haque said that the owners of the saw mill were running the mill without license for a long time. A case is being filed against them under the Forest Act.
Meanwhile, all the machines and equipment of the mill were taken away by the Forest Department, the ACF added. Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Kamlesh Majumder along with Chandpai Station Officer Md Obaidullah was present at the time.
